You know, I can imagine hiding in a closet while a tornado rolls through…but to have to leave everything and drive away to escape a hurricane is something that is beyond what I know.  I saw a car at a neighbor’s house yesterday with Florida tags.  Obviously, they are in that very position.  One of the girls at church said, “Why don’t we offer to take some extra food to them?”  Isn’t that a great idea–to do something for those who are suddenly having extra house guests?  I thought that was terrific.  I’ll call them today.

The Siegel High game has been moved to tonight, as have all other county football games.  I don’t know that the band will end up playing, though, as the rain has already begun.  Time will tell…Band contest in Hendersonville on Saturday.  That will be really exciting to see so many different band programs!

I was walking from the middle school to the high school yesterday and ran into some of the girls I’ve watched grow up.  It’s just amazing what beautiful, neat people they’ve grown into.  Some of them we’ve known since toddlerhood, and it’s such a blessing to see them growing into these incredible young women.  There will be so many bridges for them to cross, and I really pray that God will open their eyes to see truth and not be misled, to decide before they leave the house what they will do or not do that night, and always to choose to be around people who God sees as beautiful even when other kids do not.  I pray they will leave a positive mark on this world through the choices they make each and every day.  Of course, I pray that for my own kids, but often we forget that we need to pray just as much for the children we love, for the children we don’t love, and for those we may not even know very well.

It’s raining.  I have a dog to walk, and I promised Chip that I would fix waffles today.  Better get the waffle iron warmed up and the batter mixed.  Parker will head to the Parthenon today.  I have my study of The Purpose Driven Life–a great book to study with a great bunch of women.  It’s another busy day, but I’m thankful that we have a God who will walk with us and give us strength to get through it all with joy.  I hope you have joy in your heart if you are the reader of this journal.  Joy is contagious–you can infect many people every day!
