Siegel Band—Superior….Siegel Color Guard—Superior….Siegel Percussion—Superior!!!  First Place Band, Second Place Color Guard and……..

LARGE DIVISION CHANCELLOR’S CUP!!!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS SIEGEL!!!!

Now for the sad news… I didn’t get to see the show.  That’s my personal sad news, and I can hardly type it without crying.  I was so sick by the time we were supposed to leave for Vanderbilt that I had no choice but to let Bernie bring me home as the buses were leaving the school.  I have cheered these kids all year, prayed for them to do their best and learn from every bump along the way, and I knew they would win tonight.  I really did.  I just wanted to be there to witness it.  I cried as I left the school—it was a selfish thing on my part, I know.  The other sad news is that guard took second, and I am sure they were not as pleased as they would have been with first.  They took first place in the first contest of the year, though, and they know they are amazingly awesome and talented.

I love all of you band kids—you know that.  I am so proud of the stamina it has taken for you to come through this year.  There has been a lesson for eachof you.

On a completely different note,  I have to say something to two of my friends who will understand.  I’ve thought about it, and “Amen” is probably the best way that person knows to keep their religious beliefs out of the group–if they said, In the name of Jesus, Amen—that would be inflicting their beliefs on the group, but Amen is probably their way of trying to say something that most people say no matter what particular religious affiliation they may or may not have.  You know, even adults have a hard time knowing the best way to not offend everyone.  Be gentle, be kind, and remember–you will need someone to cut you some slack someday, just like I will.  I love you.
